AEG dishwasher i30 error
Stop using the machine
The anti-flood device in the base of the machine has been triggered by water where there should not be any. The appliance shuts the wash down and runs its drain pump to stop the water spreading across the floor. A hose, joint or seal inside the casing is leaking and the water has collected in the tray at the bottom is the most common cause.

Before you start
- Shut off the water supply to the dishwasher immediately. This is the manufacturer's own warning for this code, and it exists because the alternative is a flooded kitchen.
- Unplug the appliance. There is loose water inside a casing that also contains mains wiring, and the drain pump will keep running until power is removed.
- The code can disappear after the machine is left switched off overnight. That does NOT mean it is fixed. If the leak has not been found and repaired, it will trip again, and the next time may be while you are out.
- Do not tilt or lay the machine down to empty the base tray. That carries water onto electrical parts that were dry.
- An internal leak needs an authorised service technician. Do not remove side or base panels to chase it yourself.
What it means
The anti-flood device in the base of the machine has been triggered by water where there should not be any. The appliance shuts the wash down and runs its drain pump to stop the water spreading across the floor.
Most likely causes
Ordered from most to least common, with what each one looks like:
| Cause | How likely | What you would see |
|---|---|---|
| A hose, joint or seal inside the casing is leaking and the water has collected in the tray at the bottom | high | The drain pump keeps running even with the door open and no programme selected |
| Too much detergent, or the wrong kind entirely, has generated foam that has escaped past the door and run down inside | medium | Foam is visible in the tub, or washing-up liquid went in by mistake |
| The door seal has hardened, torn or picked up debris, letting water track down the front of the machine | medium | There is a damp patch on the floor at the front and the seal feels stiff or shows a split |
| A slow weep has been filling the tray gradually over weeks rather than a sudden burst | low | Nothing obvious is wet, and the machine had been behaving normally right up until the code appeared |
Fix steps
Tools needed
- Torch
- Old towels
-
Close the water stopcock serving the machine straight away. The manufacturer gives this as an explicit warning for this fault because of the flooding risk.
Expected result No further water can reach the appliance regardless of what its valves do next.
-
Let the drain pump finish emptying, then switch the appliance off and unplug it.
Expected result The pump falls silent and the machine is fully isolated.
-
Look in the tub for foam. If it is full of suds, scoop them out, wipe round, and work out which product went in, because a foam overflow is a different problem from a burst hose.
Expected result You know whether this was caused by detergent or by an actual leak. If it does not, go to step 4.
-
Draw the appliance out and look underneath and behind it with a torch, without unscrewing any panel, to see where water is coming from.
Expected result You can report whether it is coming from the inlet connection, the waste connection, or from somewhere inside the casing. If it does not, go to step 5.
-
Run a finger round the door seal, clearing trapped debris and feeling for splits or a section lifted out of its groove.
Expected result The seal is clean, supple and seated evenly the whole way round. If it does not, go to step 6.
-
Book an appliance engineer and tell them the anti-flood device has tripped and what you found. Leave the stopcock shut and the plug out until they come.
Expected result The engineer arrives prepared to drain the base tray and trace the leak rather than diagnosing from scratch.

When to call a technician
Call a qualified technician for this one. The steps above are safe to carry out yourself to confirm the fault, but the repair involves work that should not be attempted without the right training and equipment.
Common questions
What does i30 mean on a AEG dishwasher?
The anti-flood device in the base of the machine has been triggered by water where there should not be any. The appliance shuts the wash down and runs its drain pump to stop the water spreading across the floor. A hose, joint or seal inside the casing is leaking and the water has collected in the tray at the bottom is the most common reason for it.
Can I keep using the dishwasher?
No. Stop using the machine until the fault is resolved, because running it in this state risks further damage or a water leak.
Is this something I can fix myself?
No. This one should go to a qualified technician. You can safely carry out the first checks below to confirm the fault, but the repair itself is not a DIY job.

Related codes on the same machines
- i10 The machine asked for water and not enough arrived, so it stopped rather than starting a wash with an empty tub.
- i20 The machine has tried to empty itself and the water has not gone, so it has stopped with dirty water still standing in the base.
- i23 The cover that seals the drain pump is loose, fitted incorrectly, or missing altogether, so the pump cannot build suction and the water stays where it is.
- i24 Something solid has reached the drain pump and is stopping the impeller turning.
- i40 The appliance cannot get a trustworthy reading of how much water is inside it, so it halts rather than guessing and either running dry or overfilling.
- i50 The motor that drives water up to the spray arms is not behaving as the control board expects, so the wash is abandoned.
