Appliance fault codes, explained properly
A code on the display tells you the machine detected something. It does not tell you what to do about it. Every page here goes from the code to the condition that triggered it, to the causes in order of likelihood, to the checks that separate them.

Codes that mean stop using the machine
These faults risk further damage or a leak if the machine keeps running. If your display shows one of these, switch it off at the wall before doing anything else.
- Bosch E15 Water has collected in the tray underneath the dishwasher and a float in that tray has tripped the leak protection system, which shuts the machine down and runs the drain pump to keep the leak from spreading.
- Bosch E21 The circulation pump that drives water up to the spray arms is reported as blocked, so the machine stops rather than running the motor against an obstruction.
- Bosch E23 The machine has detected a fault in the waste water pump circuit.
- Bosch E24 The dishwasher tried to pump the water out and the level in the tub did not drop, so it stopped mid-cycle with dirty water still standing in the bottom.
- Bosch E25 The drain pump is jammed or its cover is not seated, so the impeller cannot turn and the machine stops rather than burning the motor out trying.
- AEG i20 The machine has tried to empty itself and the water has not gone, so it has stopped with dirty water still standing in the base.
What this site does not do
It does not pad a page out to look thorough, and it does not publish a code that could not be checked against a manufacturer document. Where a part number or a price is not known, the page says so rather than guessing — a made-up part number costs you an order, and a made-up repair step can cost you a lot more than that.
